The 48 Hour Film Project is a contest in which teams of filmmakers are assigned a genre, a character, a prop, and a line of dialogue, and have 48 hours to create a short film containing those elements
The competition was founded in 2001 in Washington. This year it takes place in 120 cities across 6 continents. The 48HFP is a platform for aspiring filmmakers to prove their mettle. The winners of the city legs of the competitions compete against one another through a Jury Selection process at Filmapalooza. The top ten films are then screened at Cannes.
The competition is pretty fierce and dozens of excellent films have been created by this competition. The films on this page are a selection of my favourites from the 2011 Johannesburg leg of the competition. At the top of the page is Old Acquaintance be Forgot by A STUDIO CALLED WONDER.
